11 september 2001: lest we forget

After the chock , the horror and the desperation, comes the time of reconstruction and solidarity. After the talking arrives time for action, Davide and Maurizio Riva, together with designers of world fame, have promoted a concrete action to show their solidarity to victim’s families of the Twin Towers and their admiration to those who helped at the expenses of their own life.

The idea was simple, but effective: five model of tables in one single exemplary signed by top names of the International design were produced, then together with Christie’s an auction has been organised for a charity fund-raising. The sum has been devolved to the FDNY COLUMBIA ASSOCIATION in favour of the Firemen and the Policemen of New York This ambitious project has been possible tank to five big of design, which enthusiastically participated to the initiative promoted by Riva 1920. The Kauri tables were designed by Renzo & Matteo Piano, Paolo Pininfarina, Mario Botta, Antonio Citterio and Terry Dwan; the projects were under the technical direction of Davide and Maurizio Riva and the material, the Swamp Kauri gave even more emphasis to the operation as a symbol of continuity in the time tank to it’s extraordinary age.

Kauri symbolises the re birth, the new life for the American city of New York wounded from this terroristic act. Furthermore Kauri defies the time and making the tables with this material wants to be a witness of what happened and not to forget.
